Liposuction is the surgical procedure that removes the excess fat on the specific parts of the body.
Liposuction uses a suction technique to reduce the size of fat cells in such areas as the hips, abdomen, buttocks, arms, and neck. This surgery removes the fat, as well as contours the parts of the body.
Most people think that liposuction will help them lose overall weight. However, it is important to know that liposuction is effective for those who would like to get rid of fat on specific areas of the body because the effect of diet and exercise was not enough to do that.
Thus, one must bear in mind that liposuction is not a weight-loss method or alternative.
Before the surgery, the doctor will review one’s medical history, checks medical conditions, and asks the name of any medications, supplements one is taking.
The doctor might ask you to stop taking blood thinners such as aspirin minimum of 3 weeks before the surgery.
Liposuction surgery can be performed under general and local anesthesia. First, the doctor designs the parts of the body to remove the fat.
Then, the doctor injects a solution with a mixture of saltwater to melt the fat first. The fluid mixture makes the target areas swell.
It allows the doctor to remove the fat easier from the body. On the designated parts of the body, the surgeon makes small incisions and inserts the cannula, a thin tube into the skin.
Through the cannula, the excess deposits of fat will be removed.
After the surgery, there might be a little swelling and bruising. The doctor will prescribe pain-relieving medications and antibiotics to prevent potential infection.
Usually, the doctor may place a drains to improve the fluid drainage after the surgery. The next day those drains are removed by the doctor.
We highly recommend wearing a compression garment after the surgery to improve and maintain the result of the surgery.
The most important thing to remember is that one can start doing physical exercises only 2~3 weeks after the stitches are removed.
