Transconjunctival vs Lower Blepharoplasty

Surgery Ria Posting update : 2021.12.13

There are many surgical methods to improve lower eyelids. One of the most prominent ones is Transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty and Lower blepharoplasty (sub-ciliary external incisional method). What is the difference between these two methods?

The transconjunctival approach involves the incision that is made inside the lower eyelids through the conjunctiva. This means that no external incisions are made through the skin leaving no scars. This technique is advised for younger patients who don’t have excess skin but sagging eye bags.

For older patients who have excess sagging skin and fat tissue, Lower blepharoplasty is recommended. This type of operation involves the external incisions below the eyelashes. Though there is an incision, the scar tends to heal relatively fast. 6 months after the operation the scars are virtually indistinguishable.
